How you smell can create a lasting first impression and we can all agree that it is pleasant to be around someone who smells good; so why not be that person? Smelling good is like a science, it requires the right balance of products and techniques to ensure you smell good all day.
I get it; smelling good all day may be a little complicated. This is because as much as we try to smell good, our body is still active and is going through the normal body processes that may end up producing natural body scents. This is very normal and healthy but can be controlled and contained.
Now that we have established that we all want to smell good, there are considerable steps that lead to that. Most people think that using products like perfumes and colognes automatically makes them smell good and as much as they do, they don’t last all day by just spraying it all over yourself nor do they cancel out any other scents. Even if you have an exquisite perfume, there are ways to wear it that make it last all day.
Shower daily

This is at the top of my list because as far as this topic goes, it is the most obvious. For you to not smell bad, you have to get rid of the things that may cause the smell, like sweat, etc. A person should shower at least once a day; it is the most optimal.
To add to this, if you want to enhance your scent, using a scented soap is good. If you want to go the extra step and get value for your money for your shower gel, first use a bar soap to get the top layer of dirt off your skin then use your shower gel afterward. Most shower gels are scented and you want to make sure you get most of that scent which will be easily absorbed into your skin because your skin is clear from the first cleanse with the bar soap.
Using a lotion
In order to smell good, a lotion plays two key roles for that. The first one is to hold your perfume. Lotions moisturize your skin and create a barrier that clings to your skin. This means that if you spray your perfume/ body splash on it, the perfume/ body splash will have something to cling to, which in that case will be your perfectly moisturized skin. Some perfumes evaporate really fast, therefore lotions help prevent evaporation for a while.
Secondly, if you use a scented lotion, it will boost your scent especially if you use a lotion that goes hand in hand with the perfume you have, for example, using a vanilla-scented lotion and then spraying a vanilla-scented perfume. This will help elevate your scent.

Using a deodorant/anti-pespirant
I cannot emphasize this enough. Put on some deodorant! Deodorant literally prevents you from smelling. That is literally its job. It doesn’t matter which type it is because I understand that there are some natural ones, plant-based, scentless…point is, whichever the variation, put some on. However, be careful and do your research first.
Brush your teeth
I know this is an unexpected item on the list but it cannot go unnoticed. Imagine being all dressed up, looking good, and most importantly, smelling nice only for your breath to fail you. It wouldn’t be nice now, would it? This can cause all your efforts to come crashing down which makes it important as well. Therefore brush your teeth both in the morning and night and if you can, during the day as well.
Another thing you may want to consider is chewing some gum from time to time just to keep the saliva in your mouth moving. It may sound gross but keeping your mouth shut and idle for long periods causes bad breath even though you brushed in the morning or night.

Using body splash
This is not as necessary, maybe an addition but body splash makes a whole difference…and yes, body splash and perfume are two different things. Body splashes are less concentrated and milder than perfumes. However, like perfumes, they are to be sprayed on the skin where it should find the lotion. Remember when we talked about that two steps ago? The body splashes you spray will cling to your skin and make you smell good for longer periods of time.
Using perfumes

This step comes next since they go hand in hand with the previous step but since perfumes are more concentrated, less is more if used well. There are specific places to spray the perfume that will make a whole difference. Some examples are the wrist, the neck, and the chest. The areas have some concentrated heat which will help in diffusing the scents for longer periods of time.
Good washroom hygiene
I really wondered if I should add this here but it fits the discussion so here it is. I’m not going to get into details because I think we all know what this is about. We should just be conscious of this and take care of ourselves.
Proper feet care
There is no way I am leaving this out. It can get really bad if ignored but on the bright side, it’s really not that hard. Just make sure you take time to wash your feet well, air them often, and clean your socks and shoes regularly. There is more to it but those are just the basics.

With that, I can only hope that this shone some light and y’all will put into consideration some of these items on the list. Cheers to smelling good all day.
