Skincare is my favorite thing to talk about. There is just so much to learn and observe on the topic. If studied correctly, yes studied, it can produce amazing results. After all, it is a journey that we should all embrace.

Unfortunately, quite a number struggle with skincare. I don’t blame them, I once had some issues of my own. As much as there is so much to learn about skincare and its benefits, I think we should take time to also look into skin problems, and then from there find the solutions. Everyone has issues to deal with when it comes to their skin. The issues vary from acne, scarring, hyperpigmentation, rashes, large pores, and many others.

I once had annoying small bumps on my forehead and around my nose. It wasn’t the best look and I tried a lot of skincare tricks here and there but they just weren’t working. I was getting frustrated and impatient. I couldn’t wait for the clear skin I was really eager for. One day, I was doing my usual scroll on social media and I saw someone say, ‘We enjoy the result and not the journey there, that is why we feel frustrated when we don’t see results.

Now, I’m not sure if they were speaking about skincare but it hit home. I did not take time to analyze my skin and give it some time to respond to treatments and heal. I was changing products and techniques too frequently. It was chaotic. I then tried to watch my skin for a few weeks as I researched what products to use. After a while, I bought the products and used them consistently and it worked but that is not my main point.

The point is that as much as we would like to have clear skin, enjoying the journey there, and embracing every step as we watch our skin transform is going to make the journey easier and less frustrating. Have that patience that even if you go wrong it’s fine because it’s part of the journey.

It is always a journey!

My skincare routine right now is not as complicated. I understand that there are many treatments and techniques and different ways to use products out there but this is what is working for me currently:

First of all, I use a cleanser/ face wash. I rinse my face first then gently rub the cleanser all over my face in a circular motion. I would do this for about three minutes. I find that the longer the contact the cleanser has with your skin the longer it has to actually clean your skin. After this I rinse my face with cold water (cold water feels better on the skin) then, I wipe the water off with a clean towel.

Secondly, I use a toner. Toners are good for that extra cleanse and added moisture. I just put some on my hands and rub it on my face. I prefer using my hands because I find that using cotton wool absorbs a good amount of it since it is liquid.

Next, I apply a serum. The serum I use depends on what aspect of my skin I am trying to work on at the moment, that is, if I am trying to hydrate my skin, I will use a hydrating serum, and so on. I put a few drops on my palms and then rub it all over my face.

I then use a moisturizer/face cream. Moisturizers are not only used to moisturize the face but also seal in all the products previously used.

During the day, I try and use sunscreen. This protects your skin from harsh UV rays which would otherwise cause damage to your skin. Sunscreen can also help protect your skin from the U.V rays and give it a chance to heal.

That’s it. That is the simple daily skincare that I took quite some time to figure out. It was a journey then and a journey now. It never ends. The bumps may not seem like such an issue but as I said, we all have our issues and goals when it comes to our skin. We should all embrace our skin types, even the imperfections, and then enjoy the journey ahead.
